Employers have a legal responsibility to their employees to make the workplace safe. However, accidents happen even when every reasonable safety measure has been taken.

Workers’ Compensation Insurance provides coverage to comply with the responsibilities imposed upon an employer by the NYS
Workers’ Compensation Law.  Businesses with employees are required by NYS Law to carry Workers’ Compensation coverage.  For information on the regulations and who must provide coverage, go to the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board’s website by

Workers' Compensation Insurance policies actually provide two types of protection.  One, it protects employers from lawsuits resulting from workplace accidents, and two, it provides medical care and compensation for lost income to employees hurt in workplace accidents.  It covers workers injured on the job, whether they’re hurt on the workplace premises or elsewhere, or in auto accidents while on business.  It also covers work-related illnesses.

Workers' Compensation is a no-fault coverage and applies regardless of who was responsible for the injury.  It also will compensate an employee's family in the case of death.  Many Workers’ Compensation policies also include return-to-work programs that will provide rehabilitation services to injured employees to help expedite the recovery process.
